In low-lying coastal Upazilas such as Dumuria, Batiaghata, and Fakirhat, seasonal monsoon inundation routinely washed away rural earthen thoroughfares, cutting off remote farming communities from sub-district health complexes, schools, and growth center markets.
Under the Integrated Food for Development (IFD) framework supported by the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) and CARE Bangladesh, RUSTIC organized hundreds of destitute widowed and abandoned rural women into Road Maintenance Crews (RMC). The project provided direct food grain compensation alongside mandatory savings accounts, fostering permanent financial graduation.
