The southwest coastal belt of Bangladesh (Khulna and Bagerhat districts) suffers from acute drinking water scarcity caused by high salinity intrusion in shallow aquifers, arsenic contamination, and frequent cyclone storm surges (Sidr, Aila, Amphan). Poor coastal households, particularly women and adolescent girls, must walk 3 to 5 kilometers daily to fetch saline-contaminated pond water, leading to chronic waterborne diseases, skin lesions, and educational dropouts.

Each installed Rainwater Harvesting Unit is handed over to the local Community Water User Committee.
